What Is Vein Sclerotherapy?

Vein sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat smaller varicose veins and spider veins, and can be conducted in Dr O’Donnell’s consulting rooms. Each session takes approximately 30 minutes. You may require several sessions to achieve optimal results. Ultrasound scan guidance may be required, which is also conducted in the consulting room at the time of treatment.

Vein sclerotherapy involves injecting a mild irritant solution, called sclerosant, into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and eventually fade from view. The solution does this by irritating the lining of the blood vessel, prompting it to close off and redirect blood flow to nearby healthier veins.

Vein Sclerotherapy is A Safe And Effective treatment

Vein Sclerotherapy is considered safe and effective for patients, and is a “walk in, walk out” treatment with minimal downtime required. Patients may experience mild discomfort during the injections and some temporary side effects such as bruising, redness, and swelling at the treated area. Vein sclerotherapy not only improves cosmetic appearance but can also alleviate long-term symptoms associated with varicose veins, such as aching, swelling, and cramping.
