Dr Jill O'Donnell

Dr Jill O’Donnell is an Irish and Australian dual trained vascular & endovascular specialist surgeon. She undertook her undergraduate medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. She successfully completed her Masters of Surgery through the National University of Ireland.

  • In 2011 she passed the Irish & UK Intercollegiate Fellowship examination in Vascular & General Surgery (FRCSI) & commenced a rigorous 18 month vascular & endovascular surgery fellowship in Westmead Hospital, Sydney. After this she was fortunate to get further experience in the busy John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle & St George Hospital, Sydney. Jill obtained her Australian & New Zealand Fellowship (FRACS) of Vascular Surgery in 2015 after passing the Australian inter-collegiate examination.

Providing vascular services to the Sunshine Coast region

Dr O’Donnell relocated to the Sunshine Coast in 2016 & she has helped develop vascular services for the region since then.

  • Jill worked as Clinical Director of Vascular Surgery at Nambour & Sunshine Coast University Hospitals from 2017 to early 2020.
  • She guided the local vascular unit through its transition into the electronic medical record.
  • Jill also oversaw the implementation of a new cutting-edge hybrid theatre facility, vascular ultrasound laboratory, and clinics.
  • Finally, she helped with the transition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
  • Jill is passionate about teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. She is active on the Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Specialties Examination Committee. Additionally, she sets the standards for the Vascular SET Examination.
  • She is a regular invited research article reviewer for Vascular Journal & contributes to both national and international vascular meetings.
  • Jill has worked with the VasoActive cardiovascular research group at University of the Sunshine Coast for several years.
  • She has been involved in and published research papers with the group.

Jill believes in tailoring vascular surgical care to the individual, not a one-size-fits-all approach. She likes to involve & educate patients about every stage of their vascular health journey. Her expertise includes consultation and operating on the following conditions:

  • Minimally invasive approaches to venous disease, such as radiofrequency ablation
  • Open carotid surgery
  • Open and endovascular approaches to aortic and peripheral arterial aneurysmal and occlusive disease.


Jill provides vascular and endovascular consulting services to patients & their families at the Gympie Specialist Clinic, Noosa Hospital consulting suites, Ramsay Bribie Island consulting suites, and from her Maroochydore consulting clinic.

Jill undertakes vascular and endovascular surgical procedures at various private facilities across the Sunshine Coast including Noosa Private Hospital, Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital, and Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital.
